Muhammad Ali didn’t ‘transcend race’. As @Shaft said the other day,

Transcending race/gender is what white people say when they begrudgingly accept us as equals. Not realizing that they are the ones that need to transcend.

So I made a Chrome extension to help people out in the meantime. The main functionality is the following: it changes ‘transcended race’ to ‘was retroactively deemed safe by white people’.

If you’d like to browse the Internet with accuracy, here’s how to do it:

Instructions:

  1. Click here to get the Chrome extension.
  2. Once you have installed it, the extension should now be working. Cruise the Internet safe in the knowledge that whenever somebody says something backhandedly nice about a non-white person, it might just be accurate.
  3. You can also turn it off later in the Settings, but why would you do that?

Incidentally, this also works wonders on coverage of Prince, Michael Jackson, Obama, and lots of other people. They don’t even have to be black! Note that this doesn’t work very well on coverage of white people, because white people tend to not have to ‘transcend race’. For whatever reason.

You’d be surprised at how effective it is. For example, here’s what it does for an article about Whitney Houston.

Discussions of Dr. Martin Luther King are much more honest!

It’s also great for regular old, run-of-the-mill, not-famous black people.

And as promised, even works wonders for not-black people!

Much better.

I’m on twitter at dexdigi. If you get any good/funny/weird results, screenshot and tag them with #UnTranscended or something, idk

requisite disclaimers: if this extension snaps your computer up, not my fault. I don’t actually know how to code. but here it is on github if you want to see it.
